There are a number of things that you as a victim of whiplash can do to improve your chances of making a successful whiplash injury claim. Because, unlike broken bones or burns, there are no visible signs of whiplash, you need to gather other evidence to help your solicitor put together a persuasive case.
Create a written record of your circumstances
It's an excellent idea to make a written record of all the circumstances that will support your whiplash injury claim. This is true of any personal injury claim, but particularly so when dealing with whiplash.
Write down the location and time of the accident, make a note of any witnesses to the incident, record anything that anyone - including you – said or did in the aftermath, and describe the weather and light conditions.
Medical evidence and advice
You should also visit your GP or A&E department as soon as possible, as medical evidence is very important in a personal injury whiplash claim. Ask for a thorough medical examination and make sure you explain every aspect of your symptoms and injuries. They should give you a written report of their findings.
But even if you are told you are free of injury, the symptoms may emerge later, and when they do you should ask for a second examination, in order to proceed to the next stage of your whiplash injury claim.
